Helping Others During COVID-19

wearing masks during coronavirusIt’s hard to know how you can help others during the coronavirus. After all, COVID-19 seemed to turn the entire world upside down in just a matter of weeks. Cities began to look like ghost towns. Our favorite restaurants and stores closed and even our most beloved sporting events have been cancelled due to the coronavirus. If, like many, you’ve been asking yourself how you can help those in need during the pandemic, it’s important that you avoid getting caught in the unknown – or else you’ll probably talk yourself out of helping.

So what can we do now to help those who are in need during the coronavirus? The answer is a bit complicated, but we have a few R’s to help you get started:

Response

States across America have declared a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting emergency response efforts. Think about how you can help nonprofits that are on the frontlines in your own community. Virtual food drives are a great option to help those in need during the pandemic and they allow employees to easily provide emergency needs for local shelters and food banks. Volunteer Match is a helpful resource to find a nonprofit near you where you can safely volunteer.

Recovery

Everyone has been impacted by COVID-19 in different ways. Some have lost their jobs and the ability to pay their bills, prompting organizations to offer services for those in need. Others have experienced mental distress. When the crisis winds down, there will still be many ways to help those in need. While no one knows when and how the crisis will end, we know it will take a while to return to our new “normal.” It’s important to continue volunteering and doing what you can to help those who are in need even after the storm has passed.

Resiliency

Every company is unique, which means they have the ability to offer something others might not to help those in need during the pandemic. This is the time to flex your creative muscle and think outside of the box. The truth is, no one knows the ‘’right” way to respond because we have not faced a pandemic of this scale in our lifetime. What we are enduring is unprecedented, but we will recover. And to do that, we need people to come together.

Reputation

These all tie into the final R, which is reputation. Companies that have increased their reputation scores were those that responded in a creative and innovative way to help those who are in need during the pandemic. Although it feels like we have been in quarantine for an excruciatingly long period of time, it’s important to remember that we will come out of this on the other side stronger and more united. The decisions we make now will impact what our world looks like when we emerge from quarantine and begin to heal.
