What We Did
OBJECTIVE
Sunwest has represented a major oil and gas company for more than 20 years to help them with their grassroots and education related efforts both in Texas and across the country. The goal of the Africa tour was to raise awareness of not only the company’s corporate citizenship but also the need for more students studying science, technology, engineering and math around the globe.
APPROACH
Billed as the “Dream Tour Africa,” the trip highlighted Dr. Bernard Harris, the first African American to walk in space, Sunwest built an itinerary to visit school children in three African nations to encourage them to continue their focus on STEM and the available careers. Stops included Angola, Nigeria and South Africa, where Dr. Harris was invited to visit with students at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. Dr. Harris was the ideal role model and offered an exciting and engaging program on what STEM education can do for a child’s future.
